Our Research is Taking Us to Austria!
February 22, 2018
We are THRILLED to have two presentations accepted at the upcoming ISME Seminar on Special Music Education in Salzburg, Austria! Executive Director Dr. Erin Parkes and Assistant Director Sarah Tomaszewski will present "Would Singing Lessons Serve to Provide Improvement of Pitch and Timing in the Auditory Brainstem? A Pilot Study". This study looked at the potential benefits of singing lessons on children diagnosed with auditory processing disorder. Preliminary findings show improvement in these areas! Dr. Parkes will also present "The Music Circle Project: A Gateway to Music for People with Special Needs" with our colleagues from the National Arts Centre, Music Education Director Genevieve Cimon and French horn player in NACO, Elizabeth Simpson. The presentation will detail the Music Circle Project workshops and its outcomes. We are so happy to continue developing our value of action research. A big thank you to everyone who has participated in our research thus far, and the organization with whom we have partnered. Finally, thank you ISME for this opportunity to share our work! http://www.isme-commissions.org/special-education.html
