In partnership with the National Arts Centre, Lotus Centre will be hosting a Music Circle workshop this winter! We are thrilled to announce that this workshop will also be part of our larger outreach, training, and research development practice. Data will be collected throughout this series by way of questionnaires and surveys and the entire series will also be documented by video. Each workshop and the final concert are 45 minutes in length, and will be taking place in the Amphitheatre Lobby of the National Arts Centre. Participants between the ages of 6-14 who have not previously participated in our Music Circle workshops are welcome to register. Lotus Centre is beyond thrilled to be hosting a sensory-friendly concert featuring iconic children's artists, Sharon & Bram. The concert will be on Sunday, September 23 at 11:00am in the Azrieli Studio at the National Arts Centre, and will be followed by a Meet & Greet with the artists.

Thank you to the Ottawa Community Foundation for $8,500 in funding to support our summer camps! We are so appreciative of the OCF's support, and are looking forward to our 7 weeks of camp this summer. The countdown is on!

Teachers are St. Benedict School in Barrhaven thoughtfully used their "Jeans Day" to raise funds for Lotus Centre! They raised $130.00 in total, and we couldn't be more thankful. It is generous donations like this that allow Lotus Centre to continue offering quality and affordable music programs to individuals with special needs. We are thrilled to be partnering with ABC Pediatric Therapies in Orléans (1939 St. Joseph Blvd, K1C 2E2), and sharing their beautiful new space! We will now be offering piano and voice lessons in the east end, on Tuesdays with Sarah Tomaszewski starting in April and Sundays with Brett Jacqueline Fortin starting in May. Lessons are available in both English and French. Serving as many families as possible is important to us, and this new space helps up continue on with our mission of providing adapted music education programs for the special needs community. We are THRILLED to have two presentations accepted at the upcoming ISME Seminar on Special Music Education in Salzburg, Austria! Executive Director Dr. Erin Parkes and Assistant Director Sarah Tomaszewski will present "Would Singing Lessons Serve to Provide Improvement of Pitch and Timing in the Auditory Brainstem? A Pilot Study". This study looked at the potential benefits of singing lessons on children diagnosed with auditory processing disorder. Preliminary findings show improvement in these areas! Mark your calendars! Lotus Centre's year-end recital will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. We are looking forward to this new venue with a wheel-chair accessible stage... and air conditioning! With so many students in private lessons, we will be hosting 3 separate recitals between 1:00pm - 5:00pm. We can't wait to see our students come together and show off all of their hard work!
